The benefits of bentonite clay in soap are two important ones. One is that this clay can detoxify your skin, and secondly, this clay creates a perfect barrier between you and the razor when in a shaving bar.
This natural clay is well known as a detoxifier when taken internally, and can be found in Health Food stores.
This natural detoxifier is only found in one place, being Fort Benton in Wyoming. And it is not a clay exactly, but volcanic ash. The 'aluminum phyllosilicate' contained in it, is a super detoxifying for both your insides and outsides. This clay can be used externally on skin for curing acne and skin rashes, as well as other skin ailments like eczema, psoriasis, bacterial and fungal infections.
For skin problems, apply a poultice to the affected area. It's an active ingredient in personal care products like facial creams, body wraps, body lotions, anti-irritants, cleansers, teeth cleaning & bleaching, cosmetic and other pharmaceutical products as well.
In soap making, I used to mix this clay with Fullers Earth to create my all natural shaving bars. A minimum amount of clays for 95 ounces of soap base would be 6 tablespoons.
