Cocoa Butter Massage Bar Recipe

the recipe and a how-to-video

The cocoa butter massage bar recipe is another great how-to video showing how to make an all natural massage bar. This particular type of bar is created with cocoa butter, chocolate and ylang ylang essential oil, and placed in a tart shell. The tart shell will help shape it as well as being a tray for after use.

Again, as with almost all home made bath products, the ingredients are flexible. The ingredients used here are:

  • Cocoa Butter, 1 oz,
  • Chocolate, 1 T,
(or Bakers Chocolate with 1 tsp coconut oil)
  • Ylang ylang essential oil, 1/2 tsp,
  • Tart shell, or something somewhat flexible.
  • This recipe can be made in the day and be ready in a couple of hours. You can keep these in the fridge indefinitely, yet a freezer could crack them if placed in warm. If you found this massage bar a little too solid, or if you wanted it to melt faster, you could simply add a little (1/2 tsp) of a carrier oil such as olive or jojoba.

Cocoa butter is cream-colored and used to add flavor, scent, and smoothness to chocolate, cosmetics, tanning oil, soap, and a wide variety of topical lotions and creams. This butter has been called the premier moisturizer, and has been used for centuries. It is one of the most stable, highly concentrated natural fats known, melts at body temperature, and is readily absorbed into the skin. Often recommended for treatment of skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. When applied topically, it creates a barrier between sensitive skin and the environment and also helps retain moisture.
