The essential oil is made from the pressed outer peels of oranges. Again, this essential oil is made from a citrus fruit, which means that it may cause photo-sensitivity on skin. It is suggested not to use this in a face cream or lotion, then go out into the sun light. With repeated use, light and/or dark splotches may appear. Sweet Orange can be a little harsh which is why it is often in grease-cutting cleaners.
Sweet orange essential oil uses include in being a sedative for nervous tension and insomnia, while also being emotionally uplifting.
Additional sweet orange essential oil uses and reputed benefits include normalizing intestinal peristalsis, relieving spasms, constipation and diarrhea. It can help to normalize blood pressure and circulation, stimulate the lymphatic system, and relieve water retention. This unique essential oil can also help to fight chills, bronchitis, colds, and flu, and especially when mixed with cinnamon and cloves.
A couple of essential oils that Sweet Orange blends well with are lavender and sandalwood. One of my best sellers in the soap store was a
Blackberry and Orange blended bar. The blackberry was a fragrance oil and mixed with sweet orange essential oil. We also had a Sunshine bar with sweet orange and lavender, and superfatted with sunflower oil. Sweet orange was also in the orange spice and christmas spice bars.
This wonderful essential oil is probably the least expensive essential oil to buy. When making soap with it, you will need a lot of it to create a good strong scent, more of it than any other scent. Consider adding a little less water to your base when needing to add the extra amount of sweet orange essential oil. Your soap will still be fine if you don't, but it may take longer to cure with the extra amount of liquids.
